What is "ECO"????

We suppose, maybe we can learn it by "feeling" it, rather than "thinking".
"OMO-ECO" department at Shibuya University provides you some Experience-based classes to feel and learn about "ECO".

For this time, the theme is about "City and ECO".
Omotesando has been trimmed as an approach to Meiji-Jingu(Shrine).
Do you know that the long avenue with zelkova is famous among the world of its challenging work as an "ECO-avenue"?

Omotesando zelkova avenue, used to have illumination lights every winter in the '90s. Though it was very popular that hundreds of people visited every year, at the same time it had many bad effects: such as garbage problems, traffic jam, security deterioration and also bad effects for trees. And finally, the event was called off at 1998.

And this year, Omotesando Illumination is finally coming back after this 11 years!!!!

For this event, Ruki Matsumoto, Vice president of Harajuku Omotesando Keyaki Organization, will give you a lecture & a talk session of "history, today, and the future about Omotesando".

Let's learn, and walk around Omotesando together, and meet the moment of the light up!

We have this tour every year with the NPO group "HIBIKI" .

Meiji-Jingu is a very famous shrine located nearby Harajuku Station.
Meiji-Jingu is surrounded by thousands of trees, and a huge forest despite of the urban area location.

Meiji-Jingu was build to enshrine Emperror and Empress of Meiji in 1920.
100,000 trees of 365 species are collected from all over Japan.

Meiji-Jingu forest is indeed not a natural forest, but it is a "human-made" forest.

We learn about the history, and significance of the forest and shrine with "HIBIKI".
"HIBIKI" has been working on several projects about growing trees.
As one of their projects, they have this Donguri-picking and have them grow into trees.

※At Meiji-Jingu forest, nothing is allowed to take home, however, we have special permission to bring Donguri home in order to grow trees.

Don't miss this special opportunity to learn the depth in Meiji-Jingu!
